Is StatHound free?
• Both free and subscriber accounts are available. A feature comparison list is available for review which outlines the differences between these accounts.
How do I create an account?
• You may register for a free account by completing the account registration form.
What is the 'Live Demo', and where can I find it?
• The Live Demo shows all of the features available to StatHound subscribers using live statistics from a few volunteer domains. The 'Live Demo' can be seen at http://www.stathound.com/index.php?page=stats_index&demo.
Why are some viewing options disabled?
• Additional reporting features (as seen in the 'Live Demo') are available only to StatHound subscribers. To enable these features you may create a StatHound subscription.
How do I remove or change a domain name? What happens to the domain's statistics after a domain is removed?
• To remove a domain from the domain list, deactivate it on the 'My Domains' page. Domains cannot be renamed - add the new domain name and deactivate the old name. Deactivated domains can be grouped with active domains.
• After a domain has been deactivated it will no longer show in the dropdown list of domains on your statistics page. As long as the deactivated domain is reachable and the StatHound code remains on the page, hits will continue to be recorded and archived by StatHound. This may be beneficial if you have simply changed the domain name of the site you are monitoring and the old site is still receiving occasional hits from people that may be reaching it through bookmarks or out of date links on other sites.
What does 'Direct' or a blank entry mean in 'Referers' statistics?
• 'Direct' or blank entries indicate direct hits that your site received. This occurs when a visitor either typed your domain directly or accessed it through a bookmark/favorite.
What do 'Color Depth' and 'Resolution' tell me?
• Most web sites look best at certain resolutions. These statistics will help you identify the resolution that satisifies the majority of your visitors. Most computers support millions of colors, however, if your site is visited from cellphones, pdas or other small screen devices with browser capabilities, these statistics will be important to you.
Why does my own domain name show up in the Referers statistics?
• The referer indicates the page that brought the visitor to the current page. As visitors navigate within your site the hits are recorded with the referer being the previous page viewed. This information helps you to determine the average page views per visitor. This is also used to distinguish between unique visitors and pageviews.
What are Groups? What are the benefits of using them? How do I create them?
• When you have multiple domains registered with StatHound, grouping allows you to consolidate the grouped domains' statistics. Grouping is only available for subcribed domains.
• Grouping domains provides a quick overview of their statistics, without the work of summing results from each domain.
• Groups can be created by following the 'My Groups' link.
What are the 'Limit' and 'Hide' dropdowns for?
• The 'Limit' dropdown limits the number of results shown in the graph. 'Hide' removes the selected number of results from the graph, allowing you to better compare the results of the lower values.
What's the difference between 'Entry Page' and 'Entry Page - Detailed'?
• The results returned for 'Entry Page' do not include any URL parameters that your page may use - forums use these extensively. 'Entry Page - Detailed' shows you the complete URL. 'Entry Page - Detailed' is only available for subscribed domains.
I have misplaced my Stathound code, what can I do?
•When logged into your account go to the My Domains page, select the desired domain from the active domains listbox then click the 'Code Snippet' button. The code for the selected domain will appear in a new window.
